The United States Army Ambulance Service, also known as the USAAS, was created by presidential order May 18, 1917, for the duration of the "existing emergency." It incorporated the civilian volunteer units already in France: the American Field Service and the American Red Cross Ambulance Service. Col. Jones was the commanding officer; Lt. Col. Kenneth Farrington Kressler (1895-1966) graduated from Lafayette College in 1920, after serving in World War I. After training with Section 61 of the Lafayette College Ambulance Unit, he was assigned to serve with Section 643 of the Twentieth Division of the French Army as part of the United States Army Ambulance Service. He remained in Easton, Pennsylvania and began a long career in finance as president of the insurance firm of Kressler, Wolff, and Miller, Inc. He was active and well-recognized...
